Blessing of the Backpacks

Kids, teachers, youth, administrators, and school employees, bring your backpacks and school gear to church!

During the 10am service, we will pray for our children, their teachers, school employees, school supply donations, and all schools in the greater Columbus area districts. The return to school is HUGE for children and their families. When the church includes this in the congregation’s worship, two things things happen for children.

  1.  They see themselves as significant members of the congregation.
  2. They hear that God is with them at school and that their church cares about what happens there. God and church are not just a Sunday thing.

Guest Preacher

Rev. Cecelia D. Armstrong, Associate Pastor, St. James Presbyterian Church, Charleston, SC

Rev. Cecelia D. Armstrong is called “CeCe” by friends and family members. She has never met a stranger and continues to collect friends and family members throughout her Christian journey through life and real-world experiences. Pastor Cece preached at the Presbyterian National Youth Triennium  and Montreat Conference Center, where WPC youth met her and loved her!  She has a gift for connecting with all ages.

Pastor CeCe was born and raised in Detroit, baptized at Calvary Presbyterian Church (USA) and remained a very active member there until her decision to make Georgia her home.
As an active youth at her home church, Pastor CeCe served as an officer for Calvary’s Youth group, the Michigan Chapter of the Black Presbyterian Youth Caucus, the Midwest Steering Committee Representative for the National Black Presbyterian Caucus, the Presbytery of Detroit Youth Council, and the Synod of the Covenant Youth Council. Her hard work and endeavors led to being the youngest recipient of the Lucy Craft Laney Award.  After earning her first Master’s degree and accepting a job as a high school mathematics teacher near Augusta, Georgia, Pastor CeCe became a member of Belle-Terrace Presbyterian Church (USA). While there, she was ordained as a Deacon, and then an Elder, before she accepted the call on her life into ministry.

Get Involved with I Know I Can

After the 10am service, those who are interested in learning more about I Know I Can (our Mission Grant Partners), are invited to check out their Virtual Reality (VR) goggles, which are loaded with a trade career explorer software. I Know I Can has been using these goggles to help students explore different careers as part of weekly curriculum at Woodward Park Middle School.

These goggles give students who have never been exposed to the trades a chance to see what it’s like to do a variety of different jobs that don’t require a college education and get them excited about discovering new career paths. When a student is wearing the goggles, they can actually see what it would be like to change someone’s oil or work as an HVAC tech, or perform any one of a whole variety of jobs.

We'll also have food, yard games outside Hazelton Hall, arts and crafts, ice cream, fellowship, family photos, and fun for everyone!
