Lunches for the Homeless

To share the love of Jesus Christ with the people of Columbus who are hungry and, perhaps, homeless by making and delivering lunches to the Open Shelter.

Worthington Presbyterian youth initially made the lunches as a mission project once a month, but in 2012 or 2013, the youth program could no longer do it so the mission committee decided to open the project to the entire church membership. The WPC congregation embraced the ministry making from 100-300 lunches each month.

Each lunch is to include:
  • Large Peanut and Butter Sandwich
  • Bag of Chips
  • Small container of applesauce
  • Piece of Fruit
  • Juice Box or Capri Sun
  • Bag of cookies
  • Napkin
  • Spoon

Shopping for the materials and making the lunches takes between two and three hours. Loading them into the car and delivering them takes between an hour and two hours once a month.

Great God, there are so many out there who have not only no place to sleep but nothing to eat. Help guide them to a place like a shelter or clothing and food pantry so that they might have something to fill their stomachs. I know that You will come to help those who are unable to help themselves and those who receive no help in the coming kingdom. Oh Lord, I look forward to the day when there will be no more pain, sorrow, suffering, death (Rev 21:4), and certainly hunger. Speed that day, my God, and for those who are hungry and lost, fill them with the Word of God and bring them everlasting life in Jesus’ name, I pray.
