Refugee Support

afghanistan

Our congregation is serving as a Welcome Team with Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) for a family from Afghanistan. WPC member Sheri Holcomb is our Welcome Team Coordinator and contact person.

Many of you generously donated household items to help get the family’s apartment set up. The team has also been helping Fatima and Ali Reza get adjusted to Columbus, find their way around grocery stores, the COTA bus system and learn English. If you'd like to learn more or get involved, please contact Sheri at swholcomb59@gmail.com.

Ukraine

PURPOSE:
WPC received items from the congregation in May 2022 to help Ukrainian refugees displaced in Poland, including personal care and all types of first aid items.

UPDATE:
A HEARTFELT THANK YOU...to our WPC "family" for your kindness and generosity in donating HUNDREDS of items for the Ukrainian refugees.

Pastor Tom, Chaplain Linda Humston (Disaster Relief Chaplain), and I worked together to organize this volunteer opportunity. YOU are the ones that made it happen!

On June 23, the donations will be delivered to United Methodist Committee on Relief Headquarters to be sorted and made into personal care and medical supply kits.  Afterwards, they will be delivered to the refugees where the need is greatest.

This endeavor was made possible by the hard work of three different church denominations:
  • Southern Baptist Convention
  • United Methodist Church
  • Presbyterian Church (USA)

We are united as ONE...serving our Lord.

Many Blessings,
Chris Togni, WPC member
