December 2023 Session Update
Session met on Tuesday, December 5. The following is a brief summary of matters that were discussed and acted upon:
1) Session scheduled a retreat for Saturday, December 9, 8am - noon, to discuss the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center report and prioritize and implement the recommendations. (Stay tuned for more details).
2) Because of budget concerns for 2024, Session approved a 0% COLA increase for church staff.
3) Session approved slight increases for tuition and fees for the 2024/2025 Worthington Presbyterian Preschool year.
4) Session approved our Preschool’s application for phase 4 of the Childcare Stabilization Grant from the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. This grant is intended to help preschools recover and thrive after COVID.
5) Session approved its meeting schedule for 2024, meeting the first Monday of every month except for January, September, and December. The meetings will be held on Jan. 8, Sept. 9 and Dec. 3.
6) Session approved removing 220 inactive members from the church’s active rolls. During COVID the rolls were not reviewed. The Book of Order now calls for churches to review the rolls annually. All of the inactive members were contacted in advance and did not request staying on the membership rolls. This will put our membership at approximately 900 active members.
7) Session approved charging the Personnel Committee with redesigning a staffing model which reflects the actual size of our core active congregation.
