Interim Thoughts

A Five-Day Wow, Our Future, And The PNC

In the brief space of five days the incremental pledges received have surpassed our initial goal. In fact, WPC is now on its way toward meeting the stretch goal.

All this in about five days. I will defer to the weekly Friday email “thermometer” to supply the accurate numbers. You are responding to Session’s invitation to join them in making incremental pledges.

I have been involved with a number of congregations over the years. The level of commitment and leadership displayed by Session and the response of the congregation following Session’s invitation is outstanding. All I could say when I saw the initial responses was, “Wow!” It left me, a preacher, wordless. And that is saying something!

That sense of “wow” continues as incremental pledges continue to arrive. The deadline is March 24, so there is still time for you to get your card into the office (or submitted online HERE, if you prefer).

This challenge and your response are about far more than money. They are about the future of this wonderful congregation. They are about faithfulness to the mission of the kingdom of God. So, I hope you join me in a grateful and thanks-filled WOW. God is displaying His grace and provision through you.

About the Pastor Nominating Committee

Session has been given permission to begin working toward establishing a Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC). This committee must be representative of the congregation and will have a very specific structure.

It must include a mix of ages, races, genders, newer members, and long-term members, all within a group of seven people. Because of this very specific structure, self-nominations will not be considered by the nominating committee.

Let me stress again, the PNC will be a hard-working committee, meeting at least once a week. It will receive training through the Presbytery. It cannot begin its work until the mission study is completed and approved. The PNC will write the MDP (Ministry Discernment Profile) which will be circulated in the PCUSA describing the senior pastor opening.

We are moving along. God is good!

Peace,
Pastor Tim
Interim Senior Pastor
