Interim Thoughts

What about Lent?

Cross with purple linen
We celebrated Ash Wednesday this week. The Season of Lent has begun. While the four weeks of the season of Advent prepare us for the joyous celebration of the Messiah Jesus’ birth, Lent prepares us for the celebration of Easter while reminding us of the cost of our salvation.

The season of Lent is a time for personal reflection in preparation for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. It is a time for us to reflect upon the meaning of repentance in our lives. It reminds us of the cost of our salvation in Jesus giving his life in our place securing our redemption. Jesus is indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life.

There are people who decide to set something they enjoy aside as they observe Lent. That “something” could be a favorite food or activity. For example, I have friends who give up social media for Lent. Setting aside something that is important to us reminds us of the cost of our salvation.

The time used in setting aside social media can be used for reflective prayer and reading of Scripture. I encourage you to take time each day of Lent in reading Scripture and reflective prayer. As you do so remember, God is good. See you Sunday.

Peace,
Pastor Tim
